Wool Sculptures

Raven with Mo-o-om and Da-a-ad (on right with horns)    Sculpting wool?  YES!  Using a  technique that is a combination of methods from classical clay sculpting, carving and dry or needle felting I create these wool sculptures.   I use wool from sheep, such as these two lambs that are named after my parents ("Da-a-ad" and "Mo-o-om"), raised at my home on Wolston Farms in Oregon's beautiful Willamette Valley.  The browns, greys etc. are the natural colors of our sheep, the brighter colored wools are dyed for us using white wool.

The wool is processed in small batches using very mild, environmentally friendly detergents and from that raw material I create the wool sculptures seen on these pages.  All of my  wool sculptures are individually hand made. No two are exactly alike but each one of a given design has the same basic dimensions and form.

My wool sculptures require very little attention except the occasional dusting but should be kept away from your pets, who would probably eat them, and very young children who might try to do the same.   All the pieces in this collection are mounted on hand selected wood burl bases, are named and signed on the bottom, and include a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity.

About Me

I have been a professional artist for over 18 years working in a number of different media including pen & ink, watercolor and wood.  I started developing the art of wool sculpture two years ago after seeing some needle-felted crafts.  I immediately saw the potential in the medium to move beyond the small, relatively simple pieces that I saw to large fine art pieces such as those seen on my web site.  I am a member of the National Sculpture Society and I teach classes for people interested in trying wool sculpture.

Each sculpture that I make represents a subject that has personal significance for me and that I believe has a special place in the world.
